Established in 2000, Dr. B.C. Roy Engineering College was one of the first private Engineering College in West Bengal. Under the aegis of the University of Burdwan, BCREC was a platform for the hundreds of students who could not afford to go South for a degree in Engineering of Management. BCREC, under the affiliation of MAKAUT and the with the accreditation of AICTE and NBA, has come a long way. In its 19th year now, BCREC today offers 5 M.Tech. Programs, 7 B.Tech. Programs and 2 Post Graduate Programs in Management and Computer Application. Spread over a large area of about 17 acres, BCREC has multistoried buildings for each separate department, a Central Library, a Recreation Area, Games and Sports Arenas, Multigyms, state of art Laboratories for all subjects including English Language. The is a robust Training and Placement Cell which ensures that our students are trained for the whole semester in order to succeed in Campus Placements. GATE Forum ensures that students opting for higher education in Engineering are also suitably trained. More than a few hundreds of teaching staff with sterling academic careers and credentials are the guardians of the teaching learing process in this college.
Durgapur is a major industrial and tier-II city and a municipal corporation in Paschim Bardhaman district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the fourth largest urban agglomeration after Kolkata, Asansol and Siliguri in West Bengal and was planned by two American architects, Joseph Allen Stein and Benjamin Polk in 1955. Durgapur is the only city in eastern India to have an operational dry dock. Durgapur has been nicknamed as the 'Ruhr of Bengal'.
Established in rural West Bengal in 1901 by the renowned poet and philosopher, Rabindranath Tagore, Santiniketan was a residential school and centre for art based on ancient Indian traditions and on a vision of the unity of humanity transcending religious and cultural boundaries. It later grew to a world class University named as Viswa Bharati University.
The terracotta temples of Bishnupur are a group of temples in Bankura district known for their intricate terracotta carvings and unique architectural style. The temples are associated with the Gaudiya Vaishnava faith and are a testament to the artistic and cultural achievements of the Malla dynasty.
This 692 metre long Barrage was built across the Damodar River in 1955. Spanning 34 gates, this 12 metre high barrage was constructed to harness the flood situation arising out of excess water coming from Maithon & Panchet Dams. It is popular for it's scenic beauty of the adjacent areas and is a regular picnic spot.
The domestic airport of the city is Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport (RDP). The airport is roughly 15 kilometres from Durgapur's City Centre. It is India's first private-sector Greenfield airport. It is located in a place called Andal. The airport has direct flights to New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, which are operated by Air India and Spicejet.
Durgapur is served by Durgapur railway station (DGR). It is one of the most important station of Eastern Railways where almost all express trains give a stop, except a few long-distance trains like the Howrah - New Delhi Rajdhani express and Duronto express. It falls in the Bardhaman-Asansol section of Eastern Railways and Howrah-Gaya-Delhi line of Indian Railways. It is well-connected to Southern India by some direct trains plying from Durgapur as well as from Asansol (ASN) which is the nearest station.
